“In the mirror of the body, the soul reflects its deepest desires, and sometimes, it is in the absence that we seek the presence of our true self.” MIRROR PBP™
Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID) can be interpreted as a symbolic expression of a deep conflict related to self-identity, control, and personal wholeness. The disorder, where individuals feel the need to amputate a healthy limb to feel “complete,” may be rooted in profound subconscious struggles.
Conflict of Self-Identity and Wholeness: The disconnect between one’s physical body and mental self-image in BIID could symbolize a core emotional conflict where the individual (in the womb(mother’s feelings)) does not feel integrated or fully whole. This could represent a deep-seated issue with accepting oneself as complete, as if the subconscious mind believes that by removing the “unwanted” body part, it will achieve harmony or self-recognition.
Conflict of Control Over the Body: BIID may also arise from a subconscious need for control over one’s body and life circumstances. The desire to amputate a limb may represent an attempt to assert authority over personal circumstances or emotions, particularly if the individual feels powerless in other areas of life.
Conflict of Dissociation and Belonging: The body part that is perceived as foreign or “not belonging” may signify a larger emotional dissociation, where the individual is disconnected from a part of themselves. This can be linked to unresolved emotional conflicts or trauma, and the act of amputation is seen as a way to symbolically “cut off” the unwanted parts of their emotional history.
Understanding BIID through the lens of MIRROR PBP™ allows for a more profound exploration of how subconscious emotional conflicts manifest in physical desires and perceptions. By addressing these underlying emotional struggles, the individual can work toward finding a more holistic sense of self-alignment and integration.

Each case offers a doorway into the deeper layers of the human experience—revealing how unspoken emotions, unconscious patterns, and generational imprints may influence the way the body communicates through imbalance. These stories invite us to listen with presence, to reflect with compassion, and to approach the body’s messages with curiosity and care. Through this lens, we begin to see symptoms not as isolated events, but as meaningful expressions of our inner world waiting to be understood.
